IndigoAcorn.com was established in 2009 to create a cozy shopping neighborhood for leading luxury, upscale, and designer brands and retailers. As such, IndigoAcorn is focused on finding and sharing great buys within the premium shopping environment. The coupon and shopping components of IndigoAcorn are powered by savings technologies pioneered at Shopping-Bargains.com and continually updated since 1999.
The idea for IndigoAcorn was to create a fashionable and fun shopping destination emphasizing the finer brands in life. In doing so, we searched for an unusual name to capture a unique feeling and vivid imagery. The result of this quest, obviously, was the name IndigoAcorn; however, the creation of "The Legend of the Indigo Acorn" perhaps best encapsulates our vision behind this exclusive shopping site:
The Legend of the Indigo Acorn
In the forest of Luxuqualia, sparkling brooks run clear, diamond-drops reflecting off the ripples, and elegant oaks shelter emerald-green valleys. Cozy chalets surround an azure lake, and a meandering path leads to a charming village of exclusive shops. Pristine and untouched, the quaint village embodies the creativity and quality of the region, in everything from currency to craftsmanship.
For in the village of Elituxora, the only accepted currency is the acorns of the majestic forest. The common green acorns are traded for fresh bread and fragrant cheeses, or given to schoolchildren for a tasty treat from the candy shoppe. The rich brown acorns are barter for crimson wines and hardy household goods. By far the most prized, the rare indigo acorns are reserved for the unique and exceptional hand-crafted goods of the region — acorns and goods so prized they were rarely seen by any outsiders.
The indigo acorn was made most famous, however, by the coveted Knight of the Indigo Acorn title, one earned by heroism and chivalry rather than passed down through a family line. The rare knight who earns the privilege of bearing the Indigo Acorn coat of arms is one whose keen insights, valor, and leadership are unparalleled among his peers.
Long ago, when there were kingdoms and uncharted lands, a peasant toiled endlessly, trying to coax crops from the dry soil. His land was overshadowed by the castle wall, and his spirits overshadowed by the knights who rode out on heroic quests. One dreary morning, he heard a polite request for help. However, he could not locate the person speaking, search as he might. Finally, he threw himself down on the ground, wearied with his search, and stared up at the sky . . . only to find indigo eyes staring down at him!
Leaning out of a window high above him, the owner of the bewitching indigo eyes, asked again, "Do you see my bird? She normally comes right back, but I can't see her. I hope she's not hurt!"
“Uh, no, Miss. I haven’t seen her, but I will watch for her. What does she look like?” He replied, after recovering from his surprise.
“Oh, thank you ever so much. She is small but beautiful, and sings the most pleasant songs. If you call her, she may not come to you, but if you will wait patiently, she will sit on your shoulder. Oh! I must go!” and with that, she vanished from sight.
“How will I find . . .?” The peasant let his question trail off, realizing she was out of earshot before he had even begun. He shrugged his shoulders, and went back to his chores, keeping an eye out for the beautiful songbird as he worked.
All that evening, the following day, and into the following night, the peasant toiled and watched. He searched under bushes and glanced into trees, even checking the haystacks and the eaves of his simple hut. Still, he found no bird to match the maid’s description.
The next day, as he worked in the arid soil, he again heard a voice calling. The girl with the indigo eyes asked hopefully, “Have you seen her? She has not returned home, and I cannot leave the castle to search for her! I am very worried!”
Sadly, the farmer answered, “no, not yet. I have not stopped looking but I have seen no bird to match your description.”
The girl made no reply for a long time, just looked down at him with tears in her eyes. Finally, with a catch in her voice, she thanked him for his kindness and withdrew.
Later that evening, a messenger dashed away from the castle gates, and returned at nightfall followed by the Castle Doctor. By morning, the entire kingdom knew that the princess had fallen ill, and refused to speak to anyone. The King sent out messengers with offers of a reward for anyone who could bring the princess back to health again. The procession of people who attempting to collect the reward stretched along the road as far as the eye could see by the next morning.
All that day, as the peasant toiled, he watched the line shorten, as person after person tried and failed. Above him, he heard sobbing. Quickly, he called, “Have you found your bird? Perhaps she can make the princess happy.”
Shocked brown eyes stared back at him, swollen from weeping. “How do you know about the princess’s bird? For that is what she wishes for more than anything else, and it has flown away! I am her maid, and I have looked for three days now, and cannot find her songbird anywhere.”
“The princess’s bird!” the peasant exclaimed! “The kind girl with the indigo eyes is the princess?! She asked me if I had seen her bird a few days ago, but I had no idea I was speaking to Her Highness! Wait! Before you go, what color is her bird?”
The sad maid replied, “the same as her eyes,” as she disappeared from sight.
Overcome with sorrow, the serf quickly put away his tools, and began searching for the indigo bird anywhere he could think to look. As night fell, he trudged slowly back home, grieved at the thought of the kind princess’s broken heart. He resolved to pack for a journey, and search the surrounding countryside for any trace of the beautiful songbird.
As the sun rose, he set out, walking toward the river. . .
